In the continuity of Pune 2001 and Manila 2004 workshops, UpLift India Association and its partners Inter Aide, Entrepreneurs du Monde and Initiative Développement have organized a third workshop in Mumbai and Pune from December 7th to December 15th. Microfinance professionals from many different countries gathered in order to share, discuss concrete tools and strategies with the goal to impact and to enrich the lives of the poor. Financial and Non financial services, impact, processes, methodologies, strategic planning management, HR, IT, Finance, organization were among the fields for which tools were exchanged to come back on the field with concrete solutions. In order to keep a close eye on the goal, field visits were systematically part of the workshops’ curriculum. Here came the time to update this energy!
Objectives of this workshop:
This workshop aimed at exchanging on the effectiveness of micro finance and micro insurance schemes in delivering services for poor and urban population segments. The keynote of this workshop has then been the following question: “Which microfinance services for a better impact and outreach?”

In order to answer this question, several points have been covered:
· micro finance, and outreach methodologies
· social performance management and impact measures
· health micro insurance
· non financial services to deepen impact of financial services
· strategic and operational planning for microfinance activities
· Knowledge management; building on experience and sharing practices
This workshop has been organized in a participative manner, with alternated visits on field in order to remain close to the goal of our activities.

This workshop has gathered organizations and NGOs implementing microfinance activities from Benin, Haiti, Ghana, Madagascar, Philippines, Cambodia, France, Vietnam, Myanmar and from India.
It was hosted in Mumbai and Pune, India, by UpLift India Association, a network of NGOs working in Maharashtra who share the common vision and values:
· Seek to reach and work with disadvantaged families,
· Act always so as to reinforce the beneficiaries’ own development capacities…
· Promote Solidarity
· Facilitate Entrepreneurship
· Adopt a professional and pragmatic approach
· Respect the field of operations, the stakeholders, information, rules and regulations
· Act in the strictest personal, religious and political neutrality,
Altogether the participants have exchanged, thought, debated, experimented ideas, processes, practices… in order to always improve their daily work wherever they implement Micro finance or insurance activities….
