Disha Kendra

History



Disha Kendra is established in 1997 as a trust in order to work for women who were victims of domestic violence. While working with women, education need for their children was identified. Therefore, Disha had started pre-primary classes for the children under age 4.



Since May 2003, Disha has started working in the field of Micro-finance for both men and women.



Mission and Activities

Disha Kendra is primarily working in income generation activities. It has adopted JLG (Joint liability Group) model for lending purpose. Under this program, Disha Kendra:



-Provides micro loans ranging from Rs.1000 to Rs.30000 for productive activity

-Offers loan based & voluntary savings product

-Provides on site business guidance



Disha Kendra has been operating through three branches, which are situated around Pune east. Every branch is administered a branch manager who is supported by 3 credit officers.



In Head office of Disha Kendra, pre-primary classes are conducted. Skill trainings are also conducted for group of women.



Objectives of Microfinance Project



Disha Kendra’s main objective is to improve the socio-economic condition of the poor by providing financial & non financial services in sustainable manner.



Following specific goals are set to achieve this objective:



-At least 50% of below poverty level families avail financial services.

-60% of partners increase their business capital by 20%.

-70% of families increase their savings by 20%.
