Annapurna Parivar Vikas Samvardhan - Pune

History

Annapurna Parivar, Pune is a group of NGOs working in Pune city since 1993. It started as a chapter of Annapurna Mahila Mandal Mumbai, which is working for the inn-runners of Mumbai since 1975.

Mission

“Empowered Women in a sustainable family” is the vision of Annapurna.

Our mission is to make our members sustainable and happy in their professional and personal lives by giving small repetitive loans to poor enterprising men and women along with business guidance and skill trainings to improve their business.

Linking the members and their adolescent children with the jobs.

Generating their savings and insuring them against unforeseen emergencies like death, sickness.

Helping them look after their families in a better way by providing support in family counselling, day care centres.

‘Annapurna Parivar’ has a strong belief that, it is possible to influence policies at the local, national & international level in favour of the poor.

Activities

Annapurna Parivar is working with poor self employed women and men in urban slums through its various projects viz.

1. Artha-Udyampurna : (Business and Social micro loans and savings program for poor self employed women and men)

2. Tantra-Sandhipurna : (Vocational Training Program for school & college dropouts and job placement for unskilled and semi-skilled youth.)

3. Swasthyapurna : (Health Mutual Fund and Family Security Fund for the slum dwellers.)

4. Shantipurna : (Family Development, Legal & Health Advice Program.)

5. Vatsalya purna : (Low Cost Crèches in Slums.)

The ‘Artha-Udyampurna’ project is at the core of all ‘Annapurna Parivar’ activities, since it addresses the basic need i.e. economic need of slum dwellers. Small loans are provided for business and other social needs like education and housing needs.

‘Annapurna Parivar’ has a unique model of giving small repetitive loans through “Common Goals Group” (CGG).

The CGGs are different than the “Self Help Group” which are most common in the field of Micro-Finance in rural India.

CGGs are more suitable for the urban slum. In CGGs 4 to 10 poor women / men get together in groups and stand as guarantee for the loan to each member in CGG. ‘Annapurna Parivar’ as a micro finance institution gives loans ranging from Rs 1000/- to Rs. 35000/- to women/men. These loans are given through “Arth-Udyampurna” project. While repaying the loan, they have to save 20% minimum. All the partners are insured under Janashri Family Security Fund. The partners of Artha-Udyampurna are vegetable vendors, fish/dry-fish sellers, fruit seller, flower / garland sellers, rag pickers, papad rollers, construction & domestic workers, farm laborers, construction workers, small fabricators, petty merchants, rickshaw drivers etc.

All the programs of ‘Annapurna Parivar’ have shown positive impact on the 80 slums in Pune city. Micro credit is used as an entry point. However, through a comprehensive network of various services in the slums, complete empowerment of families is achieved.

‘Annapurna Parivar’ has also become a member of networks like UPLIFT (an international network by Inter aide, France) and Times Foundation (by Times of India), Swayam Sahayata Samiti, Pune and Planet Finance, France.
